Snap-on unveils TRITON to cut diagnostic time from start to fixed.

Snap-on has introduced TRITON, a new diagnostic platform built to shorten time-to-fix in busy workshops. The handheld unit blends code-based troubleshooting, Smart Data filtering and a two-channel guided scope, alongside a complete vehicle scan and manufacturer-level coverage. For tyre retailers and mixed workshops, the focus is a clearer path from fault code to confirmed repair, improving bay productivity and job turnaround.

TRITON’s code-driven workflow is designed to remove noise, automatically surfacing only the PIDs related to a fault and flagging out-of-range values at idle. A full-vehicle scan identifies system codes in one pass, while pre-filtered functional tests and technical service bulletins help confirm the repair route. In practice, this means fewer dead-ends and faster authorisation conversations with customers.

“The continuously evolving automotive world has created what is now the most challenging environment that diagnostic professionals have ever seen,” said Helen Cox, marketing and client services director at Snap-on Diagnostics. “The new TRITON scan tool is at the technician’s side for every vehicle… and takes the lead on every repair so there is no more wondering where to start.” The message is clear: reduce diagnostic ambiguity and keep vehicles moving through the bay.

Guided scope for proof-positive repairs

Beyond code reading, TRITON integrates a two-channel lab scope with Fast-Track Guided Component Tests. The tool presents where to connect, known-good waveforms and step-by-step checks, helping technicians confirm component condition and capture intermittent faults. For tyre retailers expanding into servicing, this guided approach supports confident upsell of legitimate safety work without adding complexity.

Positioning in a busy tools market

Tyre News has tracked rapid innovation in workshop diagnostics, from AI-assisted fault explanation to integrated tyre and telematics data. TRITON enters this landscape with an emphasis on curated data and repair confirmation, rather than just bigger PID lists. Readers can compare approaches in our recent coverage of AI-enabled diagnostic devices from Thinkcar and the growing integration of tyre data into fleet platforms.

Coverage, usability and hardware

Snap-on says TRITON offers manufacturer-level breadth for codes, data and tests, with consistent navigation and terminology across makes. The 10-inch capacitive touchscreen, rugged chassis and fast boot aim to suit harsh workshop environments. Grip handles, quick graphing and one-touch code scan and clear are geared toward speed—useful when bays are full and vehicles can’t be tied up for long.

Training and ongoing support

The platform is backed by online training, live seminars and weekday support. For teams growing diagnostic capability (whether through TPMS competitions or structured CPD) access to guidance and verified “Real Fixes” harvested from repair records should shorten learning curves. Tyre News has seen how technician education lifts results across the trade, particularly in TPMS and fault-finding disciplines.

How it fits with the sector’s digital shift

From connected TPMS to AI triage in eVHC flows, diagnostic tools are moving from code readers to decision engines. TRITON’s filtered Smart Data and guided tests align with that trend: less time hunting, more time fixing, and clearer evidence for the customer record. For fleets, that can translate to fewer NFF (no fault found) events and better uptime alongside tyre management gains.
