Albourgh is entering the retreaded tyre market with its first product under the new Second Life concept, offering transport operators a circular economy solution built on Marangoni's RingTread technology.
The Dutch tyre brand will introduce the 385/65R22.5 Re-Cross T+ in December 2025, marking its debut in the premium retread segment. The Second Life programme aims to extend the lifecycle of Albourgh casings whilst providing fleet operators with a sustainable and cost-effective alternative to new tyres.
At the heart of the Second Life concept is the remanufacturing of Albourgh's robust casings using Marangoni's established RingTread process. According to the company, the retreaded products deliver comparable grip and performance to their original counterparts whilst significantly reducing environmental impact.
"Our customers rely on Albourgh for quality and dependability," says Jeroen Vos, Business Unit Manager TBR. "With Second Life, we extend that value both economically and ecologically."
The move reflects growing pressure on transport operators to adopt more sustainable fleet management practices, with retreading offering demonstrable reductions in raw material consumption and carbon emissions compared to new tyre production.
The launch product, the Re-Cross T+, is based on Albourgh's Across T+ tread pattern and has been fully remanufactured using the RingTread cold-cure process. The tyre is designed to deliver consistent handling characteristics, optimal grip and even wear patterns across all seasons.
Albourgh emphasises that its casing design provides the structural integrity necessary for reliable retread performance, a critical factor in maintaining the safety and durability standards expected in commercial vehicle operations.
Production of the Re-Cross T+ will be handled by selected RingTread partners across Europe, ensuring widespread availability and quality consistency throughout the region. This distributed manufacturing approach allows Albourgh to serve multiple markets efficiently whilst maintaining oversight of production standards.
The company has confirmed that additional sizes will be added to the Second Life range in the near future, though specific dimensions and timelines have not yet been announced.
The partnership between Albourgh and Marangoni establishes the framework for what both companies describe as a long-term circular product line, potentially encompassing multiple tread patterns and applications as the programme expands.
The launch comes as retreading continues to gain traction within the European commercial vehicle sector, driven by both economic pressures and environmental regulations. Major fleet operators increasingly view retreading as a standard component of total cost of ownership strategies, particularly for regional and long-haul applications where casing quality and retreadability are prioritised.
By entering the retread market under its own brand, Albourgh joins several tyre manufacturers in offering closed-loop lifecycle solutions, allowing operators to maximise their investment in premium casings across multiple lifecycles.
