Continental has launched the ContiTread HDR 3 HT for regional fleet applications in the US, replacing its ContiTread HDW2 tread in all sizes apart from the 265. The new regional drive retread is available in four sizes and uses a non-directional pattern intended to simplify tyre rotation and inventory management.

The ContiTread HDR 3 HT is available in sizes 210, 220, 230 and 240, each with a tread depth of 27/32 inches. Continental positions the product for regional and local operations, including general freight, beverage, heavy-haul and refrigerated applications.

A key practical change from the HDW2 is the HDR 3 HT's non-directional tread pattern. Continental says this makes tyre rotation easier and reduces inventory complexity, with the aim of simplifying fleet maintenance and improving tyre utilisation. The existing HDW2 will continue in the 265 size.

The retread is designed for year-round use, including operation in snow and ice as well as wet and dry conditions. Its high-mileage tread compound is intended for highway and local routes and has been developed to resist cut and chip damage. Continental says the combination can support longer service life, improved fleet productivity and lower operating costs, although it has not published comparative mileage or cost data against the HDW2 with the launch.

The HDR 3 HT follows other additions to Continental's US commercial retread range during 2026. The company introduced the regional ContiTread HDR 5 in May and the long-haul ContiTread HDL 5 EP in July.
