Continental has been re-elected as Co-Chair of the Tyre Industry Project (TIP), the global tyre industry's leading forum for sustainability issues, securing its position through to 2029.
The German tyre manufacturer will continue to bring its extensive expertise to the organisation, particularly in critical areas including tyre and road wear particles, end-of-life tyres, sustainability assessment methods, and supply chain transparency.
Christian Kötz, head of Continental Tyres and member of the Executive Board of Continental AG, expressed his pride at the re-election: "We are honoured to have been re-elected as Co-Chair. TIP fosters collaboration within the tyre industry, and beyond, with academia and other partners. Founded 20 years ago, TIP brings together the largest tyre makers to tackle complex overarching sustainability challenges – such as advancing scientific understanding of tyre wear emissions."
Kötz emphasised Continental's commitment to sustainability across the industry: "Continental takes its sustainability responsibilities seriously. This includes our active involvement in industry-wide associations. TIP is ideally suited to reinforce Continental's ambitious sustainability agenda."
As one of TIP's founding members, Continental has been collaborating with other leading global tyre manufacturers since 2005 to address overarching environmental and sustainability issues affecting the sector.
Dr Larisa Kryachkova, executive director of the Tyre Industry Project, praised Continental's ongoing dedication: "Continental has been committed to TIP since its foundation 20 years ago. Its re-election as Co-Chair is a testament to Continental's strong expertise and spirit of cooperation. We look forward to continuing to work closely with Continental."
Continental will serve alongside Bridgestone, Goodyear and Michelin as Co-Chair companies, collectively shaping the strategic direction of the Tyre Industry Project through the remainder of this decade.
The organisation continues to provide a vital platform for the world's major tyre manufacturers to work together on complex sustainability challenges that require industry-wide collaboration and innovation.
In practice, the extended co-chair term means more comparable data on wear, clearer guidance for material choices and better evidence around ELT pathways, inputs that can flow into fleet tender criteria and retail advice on product selection. It also aligns with industry education efforts on circularity, including retreading, where Continental has been active in the UK market.
