Maxam Tire has expanded its MS501 MineXtra range with a new 50/65R51 size for large wheel loaders. The off-the-road tyre targets severe L5 applications in surface mines, hard-rock quarries and high-impact loading operations. Its introduction extends the range beyond the 45/65R45 size launched in 2025, giving operators another option for larger equipment.
The MS501 uses an extra-deep, open L5 tread pattern with staggered blocks. Maxam says the design supports traction, wear resistance and protection against damage in abrasive conditions.
Its construction includes reinforced bead, shoulder and sidewall areas. A cut-resistant and tear-resistant compound is intended to protect the casing during loading work.
The manufacturer also specifies a deep undertread to improve puncture resistance. These features target applications where tyre damage can remove a high-value machine from service.
Matt Fagan, director of research and development at Maxam Tire North America, said larger machinery and rising productivity demands were increasing the need for tyres that support uptime and operating-cost control.
He said the new size broadens the MS501 range across more mining and quarry applications.
The launch follows Maxam’s addition of a 45/65R45 version in October 2025. The existing published range also covers smaller 25-inch, 29-inch and 33-inch sizes for underground and off-road equipment.
However, Maxam has not disclosed pricing, regional availability, load capacity or approved loader fitments for the 50/65R51. Those details will matter to dealers and operators assessing whether it fits existing wheel and maintenance programmes.
Large loader tyres represent a small-volume but high-value part of the off-highway market. Buyers typically assess cost per operating hour, damage history, site conditions and service support rather than purchase price alone.
The launch also reflects growing competition around severe-service L5 products. Recent Tyre News reporting has highlighted new OTR sizes and monitoring technology for quarry operations.

For Maxam, the new fitment fills another position in the MineXtra range. Its commercial relevance will depend on local availability, machine compatibility and evidence of performance under measured site conditions.
