Nokian Tyres has introduced the Powerproof E for the 2027 summer season, with the manufacturer declaring A ratings for rolling resistance, wet grip and external rolling noise across every size in the range. The tyre will be offered in 16 to 20-inch sizes for passenger cars, SUVs and crossovers in Central and Southern Europe.
Nokian Tyres announced the Powerproof E on 8 September, positioning the new summer tyre around efficiency, wet-road performance and low external noise.
The company says every size in the Powerproof E range achieves an A rating in all three categories currently displayed on the EU tyre label: rolling resistance, wet grip and external rolling noise. The range is intended for electric, hybrid and combustion-engine vehicles, including passenger cars, SUVs and crossovers.
Achieving A/A/A across an entire range remains relatively unusual in the premium tyre market, although it is not unprecedented. Continental’s UltraContact NXT is an existing example of a premium tyre range offered with the same combination of EU label ratings.
The distinction is important because the EU tyre label measures three defined characteristics rather than providing an assessment of overall tyre performance. Independent comparative testing will provide a fuller picture of the Powerproof E in areas outside the label, including handling, aquaplaning resistance and wear.
Nokian is also highlighting the material composition of the new tyre. Depending on size, recycled and renewable materials account for between 40.9% and 42.8% of total material content, according to the manufacturer.
Materials identified by Nokian include silica derived from rice husk ash, recycled carbon black and recycled steel. The figures give the Powerproof E an additional sustainability element alongside the efficiency focus represented by its rolling resistance rating.
Production will take place at Nokian Tyres’ factory in Oradea, Romania. The site has become an important part of the manufacturer’s European production network and provides the manufacturing base for the new range ahead of its planned 2027 summer-season introduction.
For tyre dealers and distributors, the immediate proposition is straightforward: a new premium summer range covering commonly used 16 to 20-inch fitments, with consistent A ratings across all three EU label categories rather than only selected sizes.
The stronger judgement on its wider performance will come once the Powerproof E enters independent comparative tests and can be assessed beyond the characteristics covered by the label.
