Continental Unveils Conti Urban HA 5 NXT With 60% Sustainable Materials

Continental will present the Conti Urban HA 5 NXT city bus tyre at Busworld Europe in Brussels on 4–9 October 2025. The tyre contains up to 60 percent renewable, recycled and ISCC PLUS mass-balance-certified materials. It targets lower operating costs for urban fleets through 25 percent lower rolling resistance, higher mileage, and reduced noise. Continental positions the product for electrified urban transport and connected fleet management.

At a glance

  • Up to 60% renewable, recycled and ISCC PLUS mass-balance-certified content.
  • Up to 25% lower rolling resistance; up to 15% higher mileage vs. Conti Urban HA 3.
  • EU label: Wet grip B; external rolling noise class A.
  • OE-ready sensors; ContiConnect integration for pressure, temperature and mileage.
  • Initial size: 275/70 R 22.5.
  • Public debut: Busworld Europe, Brussels, 4–9 October 2025.

City Bus Tyre Focus: Materials, Efficiency and Noise

Continental’s newest city bus tyre uses up to 60 percent renewable, recycled and ISCC PLUS mass-balance-certified inputs. The company says the rolling-resistance-optimised tread can extend e-bus range by up to 15 percent, while a new compound delivers up to 15 percent higher mileage versus the Conti Urban HA 3. Wet grip remains EU label class B, and external rolling noise meets class A. [Statement paraphrased — no direct quote available].

Why it matters for e-bus fleets

“The rolling resistance-optimised tread increases the range of battery-powered buses by up to 15 percent. The optimised tread design reduces noise,” said Hinnerk Kaiser, Head of Product Development Bus and Truck Tires EMEA. He added that tyre acoustics are particularly important with quiet electric drives.

Launch platform and audience

“This major industry gathering is an excellent platform to present the Conti Urban HA 5 NXT to original equipment customers, fleet operators, transport companies and the trade public,” said Leo Kolodziej, Head of Original Equipment Bus and Truck Tires EMEA. Busworld Europe expects more than 40,000 visitors from 4 to 9 October 2025 in Brussels.

Supply Chain Traceability: ISCC PLUS Explained

ISCC PLUS is a voluntary certification that validates the sustainability characteristics of alternative feedstocks via a mass-balance chain of custody. Mass balance allows certified attributes of renewable and recycled inputs to be allocated to outputs through audited bookkeeping across the value chain. Background guidance is available from ISCC. I

Internal context

The new tyre follows Continental’s broader shift to certified materials, including plant-level ISCC PLUS progress and material innovations disclosed in 2025. See coverage of Korbach plant certification for traceability context, and recent reporting on Continental’s use of mass-balance-certified additives and resins.

Fitment, Sensors and Digital Integration

The Conti Urban HA 5 NXT launches in size 275/70 R 22.5. It is equipped with the latest tyre sensors as standard for original equipment, with sensors available on request for the replacement market. Pre-installed sensors support rapid onboarding to the ContiConnect digital tyre management system, enabling pressure, temperature and mileage insights for predictive maintenance.

Market Backdrop: Urbanisation and Zero-Emission Buses

Continental frames the tyre for growing urban transport needs and the shift to zero-emission fleets across Europe. The densely arranged sipes are designed to support grip and braking performance, including recuperative braking on electric buses.

Continental will present the Conti Urban HA 5 NXT and other solutions for buses and vans from October 4 to 9, 2025, at “Busworld Europe” in Brussels (Hall 7, Stand 784).
