Bridgestone has outlined practical measures to help commercial fleet operators reduce fuel consumption, limit downtime and improve vehicle availability. The company says better driver behaviour, route planning, telematics and tyre management can deliver useful savings as operators continue to face pressure from fuel, labour and maintenance costs.
The guidance focuses on changes that can be made across day-to-day fleet operations, rather than through large capital spending. Bridgestone says route planning, smoother driving, proactive servicing and better use of connected vehicle data can all help operators reduce avoidable cost.
David Almazan, Bridgestone’s Commercial Business Unit director, said the measures are intended to give fleets practical ways to improve efficiency without major investment. He said operators should focus on areas where small gains can be repeated across vehicles, depots and driver teams.
The message follows wider industry interest in connected fleet tools. Tyre News recently reported that Bridgestone would return to RTX 2025 with a focus on its Total Tyre Care programme and Webfleet telematics, including tyre pressure monitoring capability.
For tyre dealers and fleet service providers, the guidance reinforces the role of tyre pressure checks, wheel alignment, casing management and retreading in fleet cost control. Underinflated tyres, poor alignment and missed inspections can increase wear and fuel use, while creating a higher risk of unscheduled vehicle downtime.
Bridgestone says disciplined tyre management should sit alongside telematics and maintenance data. In practice, that means operators can use connected information to identify problems earlier, plan workshop work more effectively and reduce the likelihood of roadside events.
That approach reflects recent Tyre News coverage of the commercial tyre sector, including reports on connected tyre tools for truck and bus fleets and new retreadable truck tyre ranges aimed at reducing cost per mile.
The company’s advice also reflects a broader shift from reactive maintenance to planned asset management. Fleets are increasingly expected to show not only lower cost per mile, but also better vehicle availability and stronger environmental performance.
Tyre News has also reported on fleet operators using tyre and telematics policies to reduce CO2, punctures and downtime, including Mid and East Antrim Borough Council’s Michelin-backed fleet policy.
For tyre retailers and commercial service providers, the relevance is clear. Fleets are looking for suppliers that can combine tyre expertise with usable data, maintenance planning and casing value. Bridgestone’s message points to an incremental model of efficiency, where driver behaviour, connected systems and tyre discipline work together.
