Anyline Automates Tyre Sidewall Capture in TireBuddy Update

Anyline has updated its TireBuddy mobile inspection system with automated tyre sidewall capture for automotive workshops and service networks. Version 1.8 assesses images in real time before recording them, aiming to reduce repeat scans and variations between technicians. The update targets businesses seeking a standard inspection process across different locations, shifts and experience levels.

Software controls the sidewall image

The new process guides technicians as they position a smartphone camera against the tyre. It checks whether the full sidewall is visible and whether the image is sufficiently sharp.

The software also evaluates the phone’s distance, viewing angle and overall image quality. An image is captured automatically once those conditions are met.

Anyline says this should reduce the number of scans that must be repeated. The company has not disclosed comparative accuracy or time-saving data for the new release.

The change addresses a familiar challenge for workshop groups. Inspection records can vary when branches use different processes or employ technicians with differing experience.

A standard process across workshop teams

Automated capture becomes the standard sidewall workflow within TireBuddy 1.8. This means the software, rather than the technician, decides when an image meets the required conditions.

In practice, that could make onboarding easier for new and seasonal employees. It could also help multi-site operators apply a common inspection process across their networks.

“A shop is only as consistent as its least experienced inspector,” said Lukas Kinigadner, chief revenue officer at Anyline.

He added that automated capture brings scans to a common standard, reducing inspection quality as an operational variable.

Mismatch alerts and consolidated results

The release also introduces tyre mismatch alerts. These identify potential differences in tyre sizes recorded during an inspection.

Automated email reporting can send results to back-office systems. A redesigned results screen combines sidewall information with tread measurements in one view.

These additions move the system beyond image collection towards a broader digital vehicle inspection record. Clearer records may help technicians explain replacement recommendations and document the condition found during a visit.

However, Anyline’s claims about increased tyre sales and customer trust are based on its own customer experience. No independent performance figures accompanied the announcement.

Mobile inspection tools gain workshop ground

Anyline launched TireBuddy as a ready-to-use mobile inspection application in 2025. The system uses smartphone cameras to collect tread and sidewall information without separate scanning hardware.

Tyre News recently reported that Anyline processed more than 100 million tyre inspections during 2025. That article also covered the TireBuddy ToolKit, which allows inspection functions to be embedded within existing workshop applications.

The update also reflects wider investment in connected workshop processes. Recent developments include Halfords’ rollout of digitally equipped, redesigned autocentres and the arrival of AI-assisted diagnostic equipment for UK garages.

For tyre retailers, the relevant test will be whether automated capture produces measurable improvements in inspection speed, recommendation consistency and customer approval rates.
