Extreme H has appointed Yokohama Rubber as Official Tyre Partner ahead of the hydrogen series’ first FIA World Cup event in Saudi Arabia in October 2025. Yokohama will provide a prototype tyre derived from its GEOLANDAR X-AT all-terrain line, pairing off-road durability with a 38% renewable and recycled materials content. The move aligns the championship with a supplier experienced in high-stress, electric and hydrogen applications.

Yokohama Rubber will supply a prototype based on the GEOLANDAR X-AT. The tyre features strengthened construction for heavier hydrogen and EV off-road vehicles. It includes 38% renewable and recycled raw materials to reduce resource intensity. The design targets cut resistance, temperature control and predictable grip on mixed surfaces.

Why It Matters for Hydrogen Motorsport

Extreme H evolves from Extreme E, switching to hydrogen fuel cell race cars. Tyre load, cooling and impact cycles change with heavier vehicles and stage formats. Yokohama Rubber brings compound and casing know-how from rally-raid, off-road and OE programmes. Previous Tyre News coverage of Yokohama’s CDP Supplier Engagement Leader status shows its supply-chain focus, relevant to hydrogen logistics and materials selection.
Yokohama’s GEOLANDAR OE fitments on the 2025 Toyota 4Runner also underline the brand’s SUV/off-road development base, helpful for extreme-condition racing.

Launch Timing

Organisers plan a week-long FIA Extreme H World Cup event in Saudi Arabia in October 2025. This will serve as the series’ debut under the FIA banner.

“We are delighted to welcome Yokohama to the Extreme H family… Yokohama’s innovation and global reputation make them an ideal collaborator as we push the boundaries of what’s possible – both on and off the track.”  Ali Russell, Managing Director, Extreme H.

“We are honored to partner with Extreme H at this landmark moment in motorsport history… We will supply a prototype of our GEOLANDAR X-AT. The prototype also features renewable and recycled raw materials.”  Takayoshi Omae, Associate Officer, Acting Head of Consumer Tire Product & Marketing Planning Division, Yokohama Rubber.

Technical Snapshot (At-a-glance)

  • GEOLANDAR X-AT-based prototype for mixed surfaces.
  • Reinforced casing for heavy hydrogen/EV off-road loads.
  • 38% renewable and recycled raw materials.
  • Aim: durability, heat management, predictable handling.

Context and Next Steps

Yokohama Rubber’s role supports Extreme H’s shift to hydrogen power and provides a development loop between racing and SUV/light-truck products. Teams will use the tyre across varied Saudi stages. Event-week logistics will test casing endurance and wear stability under repeated heat cycles.
