Yokohama Earns Highest CDP Supplier Score for Third Year Running.

Yokohama Rubber has secured CDP’s coveted Supplier Engagement Leader status for 2024, marking the tyre maker’s third straight year, and sixth time overall, at the top of the global environmental non-profit’s supplier scorecard. The accolade reflects ongoing collaboration with raw-material partners, transparent reporting of Scope 3 emissions since 2013, and a corporate goal of net-zero operational CO₂ by 2050.

Why CDP Recognised Yokohama

The Supplier Engagement Assessment reviews five areas: governance, targets, Scope 3 data, risk processes and supplier programmes. Yokohama achieved the maximum score across all criteria for 2024.

  • Governance & Strategy: Board-level oversight drives climate targets aligned with the Paris Agreement.
  • Scope 3 Emissions: Public reporting of indirect emissions has been in place for more than a decade.
  • Supplier Collaboration: Annual CSR briefings explain carbon-cutting expectations.
  • Risk Management: Climate risks are mapped across procurement, logistics and production.
  • Continuous Improvement: Targets are tightened annually to stay ahead of regulatory change.

Supply-Chain Actions Behind the Score

Yokohama’s “Green Procurement Guidelines” require vendors to adopt lower-carbon raw materials and manufacturing methods. The company also hosts yearly seminars to share best practice and collect feedback.

“Working hand-in-hand with suppliers is the fastest route to a net-zero future,”

  • In 2024 the tyre maker updated its target to cut absolute Scope 3 emissions 25 % by 2030.
  • More than 80 % of tier-one suppliers now disclose their CDP scores to Yokohama.
  • A dedicated taskforce audits supplier energy data and suggests efficiency upgrades.

The latest rating builds on recent ESG milestones, including the company’s 21st consecutive inclusion in the FTSE4Good Index and a joint project to scale sustainable butadiene production with Zeon Corporation.
