Prinx Chengshan has achieved a significant milestone with the successful production of its first off-the-road (OTR) giant tyre, the 30.00R51, at its new green and intelligent manufacturing facility. The momentous occasion was marked by a ceremony attended by Liu Jinjun, Deputy Secretary of the Rongcheng Municipal Party Committee and Mayor, alongside senior executives from Chengshan Group and Prinx Chengshan Holdings Limited.
The roll-off ceremony, which saw Liu Jinjun and Che Hongzhi, Chairman of Chengshan Group, jointly unveil the giant tyre, represents a crucial achievement in the construction of Prinx Chengshan's state-of-the-art OTR tyre factory. More significantly, it marks a pivotal step in filling the gap in China's domestic high-end off-the-road tyre sector and enhancing the company's premium product portfolio.
The newly manufactured 30.00R51 giant tyre is an impressive feat of engineering, measuring nearly three metres in outer diameter and weighing 1.8 tonnes. Specifically designed for extra-large dump trucks operating in open-pit mining environments, the tyre is engineered to support vehicles carrying loads exceeding 120 tonnes, with gross vehicle weights surpassing 200 tonnes.
The tyre's design incorporates several advanced features tailored to the demanding conditions of mining operations. Its wide and deep lateral tread grooves deliver exceptional traction and grip under the complex and harsh working conditions typical of mining sites, ensuring precise, stable and safe handling during heavy-load transportation.
Safety has been paramount in the tyre's development, with an innovative shoulder cooling groove working in conjunction with the shoulder groove to promote effective heat dissipation. This critical design feature mitigates core safety risks such as tyre blowouts and delamination, safeguarding mining personnel whilst enhancing cost efficiency in heavy-duty transport operations and contributing to the high-quality development of modern mining.
The production milestone comes as part of Prinx Chengshan's strategic response to growing global demand for high-end OTR tyres, driven by surging infrastructure investment and the accelerated modernisation of the mining industry worldwide. The company initiated construction of its green and intelligent off-the-road tyre factory in 2025, representing a total investment exceeding CNY 1.1 billion (approximately £120 million).
Spanning more than 100,000 square metres, the facility boasts a planned annual production capacity of 84,000 engineering tyres and 10,000 giant tyres. The diverse product range will serve various applications including mines, construction sites, ports, airports, agriculture and industrial operations.
Throughout the construction phase, Prinx Chengshan has maintained an unwavering commitment to "high-end intelligence and green environmental protection," fully implementing principles of independent innovation, smart manufacturing, green development and circular economy practices. The facility has been built to stringent standards, incorporating modern workshops and supporting infrastructure designed for optimal efficiency.
Environmental sustainability has been integrated into every aspect of the factory's operations, including the deployment of rooftop solar power generation systems and other energy-saving initiatives. These measures have effectively promoted energy conservation and carbon reduction, demonstrating Prinx Chengshan's firm commitment to sustainable development whilst establishing another benchmark for the company's implementation of Industry 4.0 principles.
The successful launch of the 30.00R51 tyre positions Prinx Chengshan to accelerate the transformation and upgrading of China's off-the-road tyre industry towards high-end, green, intelligent and clustered development, whilst advancing the domestic localisation of premium OTR tyres.
Looking to the future, Prinx Chengshan plans to leverage its extensive global research and development network, which includes five R&D centres in Rongcheng, Qingdao, Thailand, Malaysia and Europe, as well as its North American Technology Centre. By fully implementing its "Product + Service" concept, the company will continue to increase investment in independent R&D, advance its in-depth transformation towards high-end, intelligent and green development, and deliver more efficient and reliable solutions for global mining operations.
The development represents a significant injection of Chinese smart manufacturing expertise into the global OTR tyre industry, promising to deliver enhanced performance and reliability for mining operations worldwide.
