Michael Haupt appointed to lead OE tyre development at Sumitomo Rubber Europe
Sumitomo Rubber Europe GmbH has announced the appointment of Michael Haupt as Senior Manager Tyre Design/Automotive Original Equipment (OE), effective 1 April 2025. In his new role, Haupt will lead the company’s OE division, covering tyre development activities for its Falken and Dunlop brands.
The move is seen as a strategic strengthening of Sumitomo Rubber’s European leadership team, particularly within the OE segment where innovation and close cooperation with automotive manufacturers remain crucial.
Haupt brings with him over 30 years of automotive and tyre industry experience. He began his career at Ford Motor Company in 1994 as a development engineer before joining Porsche in 1996. During his time at Porsche, he rose to the position of team leader in tyre development, where he played a key role in advancing quality management processes.
His most recent position was at Nexen Tire, where he spent five years in senior roles including Vice President for OE development in Europe and later as Senior Vice President for global OE and replacement tyre development. His contributions there included the development of premium tyres tailored for German OEMs, streamlining production processes, and elevating the brand’s profile through motorsport and media activities.
Commenting on the appointment, Dr. Bernd Löwenhaupt, Managing Director of Sumitomo Rubber Europe, said:
“Michael Haupt is an excellent fit for our team. His leadership qualities and extensive experience in tyre development and OE strategy make him a strong addition to our company as we continue to innovate and grow in the European market.”
With Haupt at the helm of its OE division, Sumitomo Rubber Europe looks set to continue advancing its position as a trusted development partner for major car manufacturers.
