Global Rubber Industries (GRI) has been recognised with the MHI Innovation Award for Best Innovation in Sustainability at this year’s ProMat 2025 event in Chicago. The award was announced during Industry Night on 19 March and highlights the company’s development of the ULTIMATE GREEN XT, which is being called the world’s most sustainable material-handling tyre.

The tyre, which is made using 93.5% sustainable and bio-sourced materials, was selected by a panel comprising technical experts, sustainability advocates, and industry leaders. Their evaluation focused on sustainability-led innovations that are shaping the future of the material-handling sector.

According to GRI, this recognition not only validates their commitment to sustainable development, but also signals a shift in expectations around industrial tyre performance and environmental responsibility in the US market.

Sustainability without compromise

The ULTIMATE GREEN XT is produced in Sri Lanka at GRI’s modern production facilities. The company notes that the tyre’s development was built on long-term research, a commitment to sustainable practices, and the belief that performance and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand.

GRI says the tyre delivers:▪  Enhanced durability for extended life
▪  Reduced waste over time
▪  Energy-efficient performance
▪  Reliable handling and strength

This approach, the company suggests, demonstrates that businesses can reduce their carbon footprint while maintaining the operational standards demanded by material-handling applications.

Industry voices

“This award is not just a recognition—it is a testament to the passion, determination, and hard work of the entire team at GRI,” said Barry Guildford, Global Commercial Director at GRI.

“From concept to creation, the ULTIMATE GREEN XT embodies our belief that sustainability is not an option—it’s a responsibility. This recognition fuels our drive to continue innovating for a cleaner, more sustainable tomorrow.”

Ydo Doornbos, Director of North America at GRI, added:

“As industries in the United States and across the world look for environmentally conscious solutions that also deliver superior performance, this award reinforces GRI’s leading role in driving sustainable transformation within the Material Handling sector.

“For us at GRI, the ULTIMATE GREEN XT is more than just a Material Handling Tyre—it’s our way to lead a future where business success and environmental stewardship go hand in hand.”
