Ben, the automotive industry charity, has launched a specialised Men's Health Awareness Training programme designed to address critical health concerns affecting the predominantly male workforce across the sector.
With men comprising over 82% of the automotive workforce, the new four-hour training course aims to break down barriers around discussing men's health issues and provide practical tools for improving wellbeing – both for men themselves and those supporting them.
The initiative comes in response to sobering statistics showing that one in five men in the UK dies before reaching the age of 65, a figure the charity hopes to impact by equipping automotive professionals with knowledge, confidence and resources to take charge of their health.
Whilst focused on men's health, the training is designed for everyone in the automotive workplace – including people managers, male and female colleagues alike. The course can be delivered either face-to-face (accommodating up to 16 participants at £800) or virtually (up to 12 participants at £700).
"Modern life can be tough. Pressures at work, responsibilities at home, and the weight of expectations can all take their toll," Ben stated in announcing the programme. "This isn't about quick fixes – it's about giving everyone the knowledge, tools, and confidence to make a positive difference to men's health."
The training takes a holistic view of wellbeing, covering physical, emotional, social and psychological aspects of men's health. Participants will gain a clear understanding of common health concerns men face, along with practical strategies and proven tools to strengthen resilience.
Crucially, the course also equips attendees with the skills to recognise when someone may be struggling and the confidence to initiate supportive conversations around men's health – addressing the silence that too often surrounds these issues in workplace environments.
Each participant receives a comprehensive toolkit containing practical tips, advice and resources designed to facilitate long-lasting positive changes.
Ben emphasised that the automotive sector shares a collective responsibility to recognise the unique health challenges men face, encourage open and stigma-free conversations, and build a culture where supporting one another becomes standard practice rather than the exception.
"Together, we can build a stronger, healthier, and more resilient automotive industry," the charity stated.
As with all Ben Training initiatives, profits from the programme support the charity's broader mission of providing lifelong support to automotive people and their family dependents. The organisation delivers a comprehensive range of health and wellbeing training courses, supporting everyone "from the shop floor to the top floor."
