The tyre industry's future is increasingly defined by sustainability, digitalisation, and EV compatibility. This year’s Tire Technology Expo in Hannover provided a concentrated look at how global manufacturers are evolving to meet those demands.
Held in March 2025, the event brought together engineers, researchers, and senior executives across the global tyre sector. A strong focus on environmentally responsible materials and digital solutions for tyre performance and lifecycle monitoring was clear across the exhibition floor and technical conference.
Among the key highlights was Kordsa’s unveiling of its REV Technologies platform. Designed to support tyre manufacturers developing EV-specific products, the platform includes:
■ rPET-based tyre cord fabric for lower environmental impact
■ High-strength aramid-based solutions for load-bearing capacity
■ RFID tyre tags for lifecycle traceability and digital integration
Kordsa representatives emphasised the need for lightweight reinforcement materials that can withstand the unique torque and load profiles of EVs.
The Expo also featured a wave of sustainable material launches:
■ Silica sourced from agricultural byproducts
■ Reclaimed carbon black (rCB) developments
■ Bio-based polymers with reduced CO2 footprint
Processing equipment suppliers demonstrated advancements in low-energy mixing, extrusion, and curing technologies. Energy efficiency in tyre manufacturing was a consistent theme.
Digitalisation took shape through presentations on smart tyres capable of monitoring pressure, wear, and temperature in real time.
Several exhibitors demonstrated systems that integrate data from embedded sensors into fleet management and mobility platforms.
Use cases for connected commercial tyres, particularly for last-mile delivery and long-haul fleet operations, were a key talking point.
The 2025 Tire Technology Expo reinforced a clear industry pivot toward cleaner materials, digital integration, and EV-specific performance. As regulatory pressure on emissions and recyclability grows, tyre manufacturers are responding with data-driven and lower-carbon solutions that span the full product lifecycle.
The next edition of Tire Technology Expo is scheduled for March 3–5, 2026, in Hannover. The 2026 event is expected to place greater emphasis on AI-enabled tyre design, advanced retreading, and full life-cycle traceability platforms.
