Cyber Tyre recognised for real-time data and vehicle integration.

Pirelli’s Cyber Tyre has been named Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) Innovation of the Year at the 2025 AutoTech Breakthrough Awards, recognising an in-tyre sensor platform that streams tyre and road-surface data to the vehicle in real time. The system promises safer, smarter driving by feeding the car’s electronics with precise information that conventional TPMS cannot provide, laying foundations for connected and automated mobility.

A new level of visibility

Cyber Tyre places a sensor inside the inner tread to measure pressure, temperature, load and tread wear, with Pirelli algorithms processing the data and sharing it to the vehicle’s control units to refine ABS, ESP and traction control interventions. Pirelli says the technology is already appearing on high-end models, with wider deployments planned across premium platforms.

Unlike basic pressure monitoring, the system communicates tyre identity and real-time condition to the car and, via V2X links, potentially to nearby vehicles and infrastructure. That opens use-cases from road-hazard warnings to smarter traffic systems and fleet optimisation, providing a data layer that supports software-defined vehicles and advanced driver assistance.

Pirelli’s push into connected tyres has been visible on the OEM side. Tyre News recently covered Aston Martin’s plan to integrate Cyber Tyre into future models, with full electronic-architecture integration via Bosch Engineering. Earlier this summer, Tyre News also reported on the McLaren Artura launch featuring Pirelli’s connected tyre sensors, signalling rising OEM appetite for tyre-borne data.

Collaboration with Bosch Engineering

Pirelli and Bosch are co-developing intelligent-tyre functions that feed vehicle stability and chassis systems. Bosch has already adapted ESP applications to work with in-tyre sensing, with demonstration programmes on supercars and further integration pathways under way.

From car to city

Beyond vehicle dynamics, Pirelli has explored infrastructure use-cases. Tyre News reported a Cyber Tyre-based road-monitoring pilot with Italy’s Apulia Region, using vehicle (derived data to assess surface conditions and inform maintenance) an early proof of concept for city-level visibility.

"Cyber Tyre is a key technology for the future of smart mobility… By integrating intelligence directly into the tyre, Pirelli Cyber Tyre makes transport systems safer, as well as sustainable and data-driven,” AutoTech Breakthrough noted in its award citation.

“This recognition highlights the value of Cyber Tyre, which gives the tyre a new role in the revolution currently taking place in mobility,” said Piero Misani, CTO of Pirelli. “In Software-Defined Vehicles, the availability of precise real-time data is essential.” He added that the goal is to extend the technology to broader segments and functions through V2X connectivity.
