Northern Ireland’s first heavy-duty battery-electric long-haul truck has arrived—and the tyres it rides on are as important as the powertrain. MBNI Truck & Van has specified Michelin X Line Energy 2 fitments for its new Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 LS demonstrator to help fleets gauge real-world range and decarbonisation potential.
The 44-tonne eActros 600, crowned International Truck of the Year 2025, brings a quoted 500 km single-charge range to local hauliers. It is the first example of Mercedes-Benz’s long-haul BEV to operate on Northern Irish roads.
MBNI selected Michelin’s latest X Line Energy steer (385/55 R22.5) and drive (315/70 R22.5) tyres—both rated ‘A’ for rolling resistance and designed for long-distance work. Low rolling resistance minimises energy draw, directly influencing the truck’s operational range.
“For this pioneering vehicle we needed a tyre of similar calibre, which would allow it to deliver its best real-world range,” said Tim Moore, Truck Sales Executive at MBNI Truck & Van.
The X Line range uses Michelin’s Regenion self-regenerating tread pattern and Infinicoil continuous-steel belt to preserve grip and stability as the tyre wears. Each casing can be regrooved and then retreaded through the Michelin Remix programme, extending service life and cutting whole-life cost.
MBNI will use the demonstrator to run customer trials across Northern Ireland, helping operators quantify running-cost and emissions benefits ahead of UK net-zero deadlines.
