Continental has marked the 20th anniversary of its tyre plant in Camaçari, Brazil, highlighting the site’s role in supplying both vehicle manufacturers and the replacement market across Brazil and South America.
The company said the plant has produced around 136 million tyres since opening in 2006. Continental added that it has invested around 1.2 billion Brazilian real, approximately €235 million, in the site over the past ten years as part of efforts to strengthen efficiency, product quality and competitiveness.
Located in the metropolitan region of Salvador, the Camaçari facility employs around 2,000 people and manufactures passenger car and commercial vehicle tyres. Continental said the site supplies original equipment customers including General Motors, Volkswagen, Renault, Honda, Fiat and Mercedes-Benz, alongside the regional replacement market.
The plant was established as a greenfield project in 2004 and officially opened in April 2006. According to Continental, the first tyre produced there was a ContiEcoContact 3 in November 2005.
Continental also used the anniversary to highlight energy-efficiency measures at the site. The company said the plant now operates with 100% LED lighting and has introduced technical changes in production to reduce energy use. It reported annual energy savings contributing to a 10.4 GWh reduction in 2025, equivalent to around 5% of yearly site consumption.
