Balkrishna Industries Ltd (BKT) has achieved the British Safety Council Five Star outcome for its Bhuj, India factory, following a comprehensive Occupational Health and Safety best-practice audit. The grading recognises robust systems, a strong safety culture and continuous improvement across the site. The result also makes the facility eligible to apply for the British Safety Council’s Sword of Honour in the next awards cycle.
The British Safety Council Five Star audit measures an organisation’s OHS management system against current best practice, delivering a quantified score and improvement plan. A five-star result indicates exemplary performance and enables sites to apply for the Sword of Honour award via a separate adjudicated process.
The process typically includes document review, interviews with senior leaders and employees, and sampling of operational activities against defined best-practice indicators. BKT’s Bhuj plant underwent this full assessment and met the criteria for the top grade.
“The award of a five-star grading following our occupational best practice Health and Safety Audit is an outstanding achievement and is reflective of a proactive organisation which is committed to continual improvement in its health and safety arrangements and managing risks to workers’ health, safety and wellbeing.” - Mike Robinson, Chief Executive, British Safety Council.
“We are extremely proud to have been awarded the prestigious five-star rating by the British Safety Council. This recognition highlights our ongoing commitment to ensuring a safe, secure, and people-focused working environment. Health and safety are fundamental values at BKT and form an essential part of our corporate culture and long-term strategy”. - Rajiv Poddar, Joint Managing Director, BKT.
The Bhuj campus has been central to recent investments, including expanded carbon black output to support product consistency and sustainability initiatives. Earlier this year, BKT also outlined growth priorities and ESG focus across its operations. See our coverage of BKT’s carbon black expansion and BKT’s FY25 report on growth and ESG for wider context.
