RH Claydon, the UK tyre and tube wholesaler founded in 1953, will cease trading at the end of 2025. The decision follows managing director Michael Claydon’s planned retirement due to ill health. In a message to customers and suppliers, the Claydon family expressed thanks for long-standing support and wished partners ongoing success.
The family has confirmed a planned wind-down culminating at the end of 2025, and sets out a respectful close to one of the UK’s longest-running specialist distributors.
RH Claydon was founded by Roy Claydon in 1953, evolving from a local garage into a nationwide wholesaler focused on agricultural, off-the-road and commercial tyres. The company reports eight regional warehouses and next-day or same-day delivery coverage, supported by a multi-channel B2B ordering platform.
Over time, RH Claydon has supplied a broad portfolio, including agricultural, ATV, truck, car and earthmover fitments, alongside tubes. The firm highlights long relationships with BKT and other specialist brands, with selected product exclusivities in the UK.
Founded by Roy Claydon, the business has been led by successive generations of the Claydon family, including Michael Claydon as managing director. The firm marked 70 years of trading in 2023, reflecting continuity in UK tyre distribution across agriculture and off-the-road markets.
In recent months, RH Claydon announced UK exclusivity for Goodtrip truck tyres, expanding its commercial range for fleets and dealers. It also promoted a pricing initiative for Yokohama truck tyres via its depot network.
The planned exit removes a multi-site wholesaler with deep reach into agricultural and off-highway segments, as well as truck and passenger lines. RH Claydon’s footprint has included sites in Bury St Edmunds, Tunbridge Wells, Swindon, Launceston, Scunthorpe, Carlisle, Handforth and Falkirk.
