The team’s soapbox build features cardboard Minecraft styling and ETB plates. As the only garage-entered racer in the field, the pair say they are aiming to impress.
“It’s not a case of us just making it to the finish line; we’re thinking much bigger,” said Josh Bye. “We’re technicians by trade, so we’ve got to win, it’s as simple as that.”
The Newbury Krazy Races is set to bring crowds of up to 15,000 to the town centre.
Funds will go to Daisy’s Dream, a Berkshire-based charity that supports children and young people facing bereavement. The organisation helps around 700 children and 800 adults each year, offering services free of charge without statutory funding.
The idea was sparked when Daisy’s Dream fundraising officer Jade Sim visited ETB for new tyres. “The way she spoke about supporting children through the toughest times in their lives really stuck with us,” said Josh. [Paraphrased statement, no direct quote provided.]
ETB Newbury, based off Hambridge Road, offers services from tyres and MOTs to brakes and alignment. As part of the wider ETB network, the depot is active in supporting local charities, with Daisy’s Dream among several organisations backed in 2025.
The soapbox race takes place on Sunday 24 August. Donations can be made through the team’s JustGiving page ahead of the event.
