The premium supersport tyre segment is heating up ahead of 2026, with Continental and Bridgestone both unveiling new street-legal performance offerings that blur the line between road and track. Continental's ContiSportAttack 5 and Bridgestone's Battlax Racing Street RS12 represent the latest wave of racing technology trickling down to everyday riders, promising faster warm-up, sharper handling and genuine dual-purpose capability.
Continental is positioning the ContiSportAttack 5 as a sportier evolution of its ContiSportAttack 4, targeting an 80/20 road-to-track split for advanced riders. At the heart of the new tyre lies an updated BlackChili compound and a revised carcass featuring targeted stiffness zones designed to sharpen steering response.
The headline innovation is the MultiZoneBelt construction—a steel belt arrangement that tightens windings at the crown for straight-line stability whilst opening them at the shoulder to maximise contact patch on lean. It's an approach aimed squarely at riders who demand precision without compromising usability.
"Our aspiration was to achieve improvements in all core characteristics without compromise," said Rafael Kascha, product developer at Continental, highlighting faster warm-up and predictable behaviour from the first kilometres—critical factors for riders who don't run tyre warmers or adjust pressures between road and track use.
Christoph Ettenhuber, head of Continental's motorcycle tyre business field, added: "Sport riding at the highest level—that's exactly what the ContiSportAttack 5 offers."
Continental has identified its target riders as technically skilled "performers" aboard supersport machinery and powerful nakeds such as the BMW S 1000 RR, Yamaha YZF-R9, BMW S 1000 R, Kawasaki Z900 and KTM 1390 Super Duke R Evo. Kascha emphasised real-world usability: "We've developed a tyre that can handle both Sunday rides over mountain passes and racetrack training on closed courses."
The ContiSportAttack 5 will launch in Q1 2026 with five key 17-inch sizes: 120/70 ZR 17 front, plus 160/60, 180/55, 190/55 and 200/55 ZR 17 rears.
Bridgestone's Battlax Racing Street RS12 arrives under the banner "From Circuit to Street" and sits at the top of the road-legal Battlax range for outright dry-grip performance. The tyre introduces a newly optimised tread pattern with a reduced groove ratio to increase contact area during cornering, paired with a compound derived from endurance racing programmes.
The front tyre benefits from Bridgestone's HE-MS belt construction—a technology proven in top-level motorcycle racing—designed to equalise contact pressure and enhance grip. According to Bridgestone, the RS12 delivers "significantly reduced" lap times compared to the outgoing RS11, with high grip levels maintained even after multiple hot laps.
Bridgestone frames the RS12 for sporty road use, twisty routes and circuit riding, with a particular emphasis on dry grip and consistent performance over repeated sessions—key concerns for track-day regulars who want tyres that won't fade after a few hard laps.
The Battlax Racing Street RS12 is scheduled for January 2026 availability in Europe and North America, with Japan following in February. Full size lists will be confirmed closer to launch.
Street-legal supersport tyres continue to narrow the gap with pure racing rubber, delivering higher dry grip, quicker warm-up and more communicative feedback without the setup demands of slicks or intermediates. For UK dealers and fleets serving advanced riders, these launches underscore sustained demand for premium compounds and constructions that offer genuine B-road agility alongside occasional track capability.
UK retailers should note that road-legal tyres for motorcycles over 50cc must maintain at least 1mm of tread depth across a continuous band covering the centre three-quarters of the tread width—a requirement that remains critical for street-legal fitments regardless of track-day aspirations.
With both Continental and Bridgestone bringing fresh technology to market in early 2026, the premium sports segment looks set for a competitive year ahead.
