Apollo Tyres has significantly expanded its healthcare initiative for the trucking community, a programme active since 2001. With 32 centres operating across 19 Indian states, the company reports that over 8.3 million beneficiaries have been reached through its services.

Comprehensive Healthcare Services

The programme offers a range of services tailored to the needs of truck drivers:

  • HIV/AIDS Awareness and Prevention: Utilising peer educators and partnerships with state AIDS control societies, the initiative provides counselling and testing services.
  • Vision Care: In collaboration with Essilor India, regular eye check-ups, spectacle distribution, and cataract treatments are facilitated.
  • Tuberculosis Awareness: As a diamond member of the Corporate TB Pledge, Apollo Tyres operates 17 designated microscopy centres to aid in TB detection and treatment.
  • Non-Communicable Diseases: Screenings for conditions like diabetes and hypertension are conducted to enable early detection and management.
  • Mobile Medical Units: Five mobile units, known as Apollo Tyres Healthcare Express, deliver healthcare services directly to truck drivers at various locations.
  • Oral Hygiene: Initiatives to promote oral health and hygiene among truck drivers have been implemented since 2020.
  • Telemedicine Consultation: In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, telemedicine services were introduced in partnership with the Telerad Foundation, allowing remote consultations and medicine distribution.

These services are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal No. 3: Good Health and Well-being.

Apollo Tyres' comprehensive healthcare programme exemplifies a holistic approach to corporate social responsibility within the tyre industry. By addressing the specific health needs of the trucking community, the company not only supports its direct stakeholders but also contributes to broader public health objectives. This initiative reflects a growing trend in the industry to integrate social welfare into business operations, enhancing both community well-being and corporate sustainability.
