From 2025, Goodyear will equip the FIA European Truck Racing Championship (ETRC) with tyres composed of 55% sustainable materials. The move marks a significant step in the tyre manufacturer’s long-term sustainability strategy, aligning motorsport with wider goals for greener commercial transport.

55% Sustainable Materials in Motorsport Tyres

Goodyear’s updated truck racing tyres for the FIA ETRC will be manufactured using 55% sustainable materials. This includes silica sourced from rice husk ash and carbon black derived from alternative feedstocks. These changes form part of Goodyear’s wider push to improve resource use in motorsport and commercial applications alike.

The announcement reflects a broader environmental shift within the ETRC. Since 2021, the series has run on 100% renewable HVO biofuel and holds FIA’s top-tier three-star environmental accreditation. Goodyear also shares this certification across its global motorsport operations.

Bridging Motorsport and Commercial Tyre Development

Goodyear has supplied the FIA ETRC since 2003 and uses the racing series as a proving ground for its truck tyre technologies. Lessons from the track help shape developments in durability, performance, and sustainability for on-road commercial transport.

“The Goodyear FIA ETRC serves as an additional proving ground for the latest advancements in truck tyre technology,” said Maciej Szymański, Marketing Director, Commercial EMEA, Goodyear.

Georg Fuchs, Managing Director of ETRA, added that the partnership proves “sustainability and performance can go hand in hand.”

Goodyear continues to retread racing tyres for later commercial use, extending tyre life cycles and reducing waste.

Enhanced Tyre Design for Race Efficiency

The latest Goodyear truck racing tyre—introduced in the previous season—features an improved compound designed for high grip in wet conditions and enhanced durability. This allows a single tyre to perform across various circuits and weather conditions, improving efficiency and reducing the number of tyres needed across the season.

Goodyear also employs the ISCC PLUS certification system and mass-balance tracking to ensure material traceability and transparency across its supply chain.

Goodyear’s move to integrate 55% sustainable materials into racing tyres reflects a growing convergence between motorsport innovation and commercial fleet sustainability. By leveraging race-grade durability, wet-weather grip, and certified sourcing methods, Goodyear is signalling how competition-led development can accelerate low-impact transport solutions across sectors, from long-haul freight to everyday logistics.
