The Davanti DX440 tyre has been officially approved as the original equipment (OE) fitment for the London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC) VN5, a British-made electric van. This recognition underscores the tyre's ability to meet the unique requirements of electric light commercial vehicles.
Electric vans carry additional weight with different distribution compared to internal combustion engine (ICE) models, due to the location of their batteries. This also results in increased torque and tighter steering angles. These factors create new performance challenges for tyres.
Davanti’s DX440 was developed to address these issues from the start. As a result, it delivers consistent handling, braking, and ride comfort across both electric and ICE commercial vehicles.
LEVC selected the DX440 following a competitive tyre testing process at the UK’s leading proving ground, Horiba MIRA. The tyre was evaluated across eight disciplines: dry and wet braking, dry and wet handling, longitudinal aquaplaning, dry stability, dry steering, and wet circling.
This testing ensured the DX440 would meet the durability, safety, and comfort expectations of a modern electric van, especially under the high loads and torque that EVs generate.
With rising fuel costs and expanding low emission zones now active in at least eight UK cities, commercial fleets are increasingly turning to electric vehicles as a cost-efficient and compliant alternative. London’s upcoming ultra-low emission zone expansion is accelerating this shift.
Major operators like BT Group and Royal Mail are trialling the VN5 with the DX440 as part of their fleet transition strategies. Their adoption adds further weight to the tyre’s credibility for long-term commercial EV use.
LEVC's decision to equip every VN5 with the DX440 reflects the tyre’s ability to adapt to evolving mobility demands. Its all-purpose capability makes it a suitable option for mixed fleets and those transitioning to full electric operations.
The Davanti DX440’s OE fitment on the LEVC VN5 illustrates how tyre development is evolving to support electric vehicle performance, especially in commercial settings. As more urban fleets adopt EVs to comply with environmental regulations, tyres like the DX440 that manage torque, load, and wear more effectively will become increasingly essential across the sector.
