New scheme sets safety and respect as standard in UK garages.

Sophie Lyden, known as the Tyre Lady, has launched a new national accreditation scheme to address customer anxiety in garages and set a new benchmark for respectful service. The "Tyre Lady Approved Auto Centres" network is designed to ensure drivers receive honest, jargon-free advice and feel safe regardless of their background or experience.

This isn’t just a badge - it’s a promise

The scheme is built around three core commitments:

■ Every approved centre is independently assessed by Lyden and evaluated by mystery shoppers

■ Staff are trained to explain repairs clearly and without jargon

■ All customers are treated fairly, respectfully, and without judgement

Each centre that earns the badge commits to maintaining these standards as part of an ongoing membership process.

Raising industry standards through independent assessment

Approved members will be personally assessed and supported to build customer trust. The accreditation focuses on key customer service principles: transparent pricing, respectful communication, and an inclusive environment where drivers, particularly women, feel welcome and safe.

The initiative responds to long-standing concerns about how customers are treated in vehicle repair settings. "I’ve spent years challenging negative perceptions in our trade," said Lyden. "Now I’m building the solution."

Beyond the badge: creating community impact

Approved centres gain more than a mark of recognition. Depending on their membership tier, they receive tailored social media content and help organising local road safety events with emergency services and community partners. This added value reinforces the social purpose behind the network.

How to apply for Tyre Lady approval

Garages interested in joining the network can email Sophie Lyden directly at sophielyden@thetyrelady.co.uk

Each application begins with a site assessment and service review.
