Business leaders from across the UK tyre sector joined Tuf Treads in mid-2025 to celebrate the official opening of the company’s purpose-built retreading production facility in Wales. Founder Mike Rees and director Daniel Rees led the ceremony with Marangoni president Vittorio Marangoni and UK manager Phil Robinson. Guests included premium tyre manufacturers, national wholesalers, trade bodies and Welsh Government representatives, marking Tuf Treads’ return to tyre retreading after a short pause.
The 22,000 sq ft, state-of-the-art site brings Tuf Treads back into tyre retreading, supported by its long-standing collaboration with Marangoni.
The opening programme featured senior representatives from OEMs, wholesalers and industry associations, underlining broad trade interest in domestic retread capacity.
A stronger local supply of retreaded tyres can ease lead times, support cost control and reinforce circular-economy goals. Recent reporting on EU tyre labelling enforcement affecting retreaded tyres sets compliance expectations for UK exporters and service providers, intensifying the need for robust in-plant quality and documentation standards.
In sustainability terms, UK stakeholders continue to highlight retreading’s role in cutting materials use and emissions across truck and bus fleets. See: Vaculug proposes role for retreading in UK’s Net Zero ambitions.
Tuf Treads’ announcement marks a new chapter in a 45-year partnership with Marangoni’s RINGTREAD network. The company previously paused manufacturing before deciding to re-enter tyre retreading with a modern, purpose-built facility in Wales. Marangoni acknowledged the milestone at the Wales opening, which it described as a significant step in the collaboration. Official summary: Marangoni: opening of new Tuf Treads factory in Wales.
