Tyre training provider Roadside Safety Ltd has expanded operations to meet increasing demand for certified technician training, with split rim and multi-piece wheel safety emerging as a renewed priority.
Following a year of operational growth, including new premises and expanded workshop space in Stafford, the business has seen notable uptake in specialist wheel training. With a wide portfolio of IMI-certified courses spanning car, truck, agricultural, and industrial sectors, Roadside Safety is also delivering earthmover training at customer sites.
While split rims are often associated with older or niche applications, there has been a clear resurgence in demand for professional training. This shift reflects growing safety concerns in the industry, particularly among technicians unfamiliar with the unique risks posed by multi-piece wheels.
One of the key dangers is the risk of explosion during inflation. If the components are not seated correctly, inflation can lead to catastrophic wheel failure, potentially causing serious injury or death. Roadside Safety’s training highlights four critical safety steps:
▪ Always deflate tyres before removal, especially on split rim wheels
▪ Inspect rims for corrosion before refitting
▪ Use approved safety devices during inflation
▪ Stand outside the blast zone by using long inflation hoses
Without proper training, the risks are significant. Roadside Safety’s qualified trainers ensure technicians are equipped with the skills needed to handle such wheels safely and confidently.
In parallel with its training activity, Roadside Safety has formed partnerships with key tyre wholesalers looking to extend their safety commitments beyond product sales. These collaborations aim to raise technician standards and improve end-user safety.
Among these partners is TD Tyres, promoting training in the bus and coach (PSV) sector, and International Tyres, which is supporting improved safety for truck tyre technicians.
