

The Tire Industry Project (TIP) has appointed Dr Willie Peijnenburg to its external Assurance Group, which provides independent scientific advice on the organisation’s research programmes. The appointment was announced on 6 October.
Peijnenburg is Professor of Environmental Toxicology and Biodiversity at Leiden University in the Netherlands and a senior researcher at the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM).
His expertise covers the environmental effects of chemicals, risk assessment and predictive modelling. RIVM’s biography also highlights his experience applying scientific knowledge to policy, lifecycle analysis and sustainability assessments.
He joins five other external experts. TIP also announced the departures of Dr John “Jack” Spengler and Dr Iseult Lynch, acknowledging their contributions. Spengler was a founding member of the group.
Established in 2006, the Assurance Group offers external guidance on TIP’s research and strategic initiatives. TIP is a tyre industry initiative operating under the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), with work covering environmental and wider sustainability issues across the tyre value chain.
