Sentury plans to invest US$272.82 million with Turkish tyre distributor Tatko in a factory designed to produce seven million passenger car and light truck tyres annually. The proposal received board approval on 30 September but still requires shareholder approval.
Under the proposed investment structure, Sentury and its wholly owned subsidiaries would contribute 90.1%, with Tatko contributing 9.9%. The project covers high-performance radial tyres.
Sentury’s project announcement, dated 8 October, specifies an 18-month construction period. It identifies the location only as Turkey, without confirming a site, construction start or commissioning date. Approvals or filings with relevant Chinese and Turkish authorities remain necessary.
The company says the factory would serve European and Central Asian markets while positioning it closer to regional vehicle manufacturers. It would complement Sentury’s existing overseas manufacturing bases in Thailand and Morocco.
Tatko brings an established tyre distribution business to the proposal. Its group website describes operations spanning passenger, truck and off-highway tyres, alongside imports, exports, distribution logistics, retreading and retail services in Turkey and neighbouring countries.
Sentury says its partner’s local market knowledge and distribution channels would support development of both original equipment and replacement tyre sales. The proposal therefore combines additional manufacturing capacity with access to an existing regional sales network.
The accompanying feasibility study estimates Sentury’s contribution at approximately US$245.81 million and Tatko’s at US$27.01 million. Funding would be self-raised by the partners. These are planned investment amounts, rather than confirmation that the money has been spent.
For manufacturers, importers and wholesalers, the project represents a potential new regional source of passenger and light commercial tyres. Its timing remains conditional: Sentury warns that failure to secure the required approvals could lead to changes, delays or cancellation.
