Prometeon Tyre Group has selected and commissioned an automated final-inspection system for truck and bus tyres. Developed through a collaboration with Rockwell Automation and inspection specialist Tekna Automazione e Controllo, the image-based system is designed to detect and classify tyre anomalies and make inspection results more useful for quality control.
Prometeon Tyre Group has commissioned an automated, image-based system for final tyre inspection in a project involving Rockwell Automation and Tekna Automazione e Controllo.
Announced by Rockwell on 24 September, the project combines its industrial automation expertise with Tekna’s image-processing and inspection technology. Prometeon selected and commissioned the solution for automatic checks on truck, bus and radial tyre products, according to Rockwell.
The system is designed to detect and classify anomalies during final inspection. Rockwell says the resulting production information could support quality management and help manufacturers identify opportunities to improve their processes. Kalypso, Rockwell’s digital transformation consulting business, is also supporting the project.
For tyre manufacturers, automated classification could make inspection results more consistent and easier to analyse across production runs. That is the intended benefit of this project, rather than a measured outcome reported so far. Rockwell says the system is designed for high-volume manufacturing, but its announcement does not provide detection-accuracy figures, throughput data or a comparison with Prometeon’s previous inspection process.
Bruno Lodi, Prometeon’s chief manufacturing officer, described the collaboration as part of the company’s work to strengthen product quality, process consistency and the use of manufacturing data. Rockwell also says it has worked with Prometeon on broader manufacturing modernisation initiatives.
The announcement does not identify the plant using the system, the number of inspection stations or the share of production covered. Those details would help establish its operational scale. Prometeon has confirmed the system’s selection and commissioning, while the effect on inspection performance remains unquantified in the information released.
