Nokian Tyres has introduced Powerproof 2, a new summer line for passenger cars, SUVs and crossovers designed for Europe’s variable conditions. The range blends high-speed precision with class-leading wet-road performance and reduced cabin noise. With 76 fitments from 16 to 21 inches and V, W and Y speed ratings, first deliveries are planned ahead of summer 2026.
Positioned in the high- and ultra-high-performance brackets, Powerproof 2 targets drivers who face sudden downpours after dry heat. Nokian says its Dual Zone Safety concept underpins the tyre’s balance of precise handling and wet-surface confidence. “It combines high-speed performance with class-leading wet safety,” noted Tommi Alhola, Senior Vice President, Passenger Car Tyres, Central Europe.
Three integrated elements define the product brief. Twin Force Tread splits the pattern into functional zones for dry stability and wet grip. Hydro Grip Compound supports braking on soaked asphalt while aiming for long wear and low rolling resistance. At carcass level, Power Lock Core adds a rigid foundation for stability during high-load manoeuvres and high-speed lane changes.
Noise was a focus. An optimised cap-and-base compound set and a pattern tuned with narrow shoulder grooves are intended to cut road roar. Selected sizes add SilentDrive™ sound-absorbing technology to reduce interior peaks on coarse surfaces. “The tyre delivers low noise and refined comfort in daily use,” said Development Manager Samu Lepistö.
Aramid Strong Sidewalls (17 inches and up) bring cut- and impact-resistance for kerb strikes and rough surfaces. A larger rim protector and performance-optimised bead rings are designed to secure the fit on the wheel under heavy lateral loads. Nokian also points to rounded ribs and pressure-distribution features intended to support braking and tread life.
Beyond internal proving at the Hakka Ring test centre in Spain and tracks in Finland and Germany, Powerproof 2 has been benchmarked by TÜV SÜD against four rivals on wet and dry surfaces. Meeting the organisation’s thresholds signals that the tyre performs competitively among premium peers. In practice, that matters for fleets and retailers who rely on third-party validation rather than lab claims alone.
Powerproof 2 spans 76 SKUs from 16–21 inches with V (240 km/h), W (270 km/h) and Y (300 km/h) markings. Deep, continuous longitudinal grooves are designed to store and evacuate water to resist aquaplaning , a central factor in EU label wet-grip expectations for summer tyres.
Availability to consumers is scheduled ahead of the summer season 2026.
