The newly launched Michelin CrossClimate 3 Sport has earned an early industry endorsement, securing its first original equipment (OE) fitment on the Alpine A390 while also winning the 2025 Ze Award for Technological Innovation. The tyre blends ultra-high-performance (UHP) handling with certified winter capability, meeting a long-standing market challenge.
Michelin’s new all-season UHP tyre enters the market with a notable OE partnership. The CrossClimate 3 Sport has been selected as the factory fitment for the Alpine A390, part of Alpine’s Dream Garage sports car series.
A custom version of the tyre, marked “A39”, has been developed specifically for the A390. It will be fitted in size 245/45 R20 103V XL to deliver high-speed responsiveness alongside year-round grip—an increasingly important requirement for both combustion and electric performance vehicles.
Designed for powerful petrol and electric sports cars, the CrossClimate 3 Sport combines summer sport dynamics with full winter capability, including the Three Peak Mountain Snowflake (3PMSF) certification.
Key engineering features include:
▪ Motorsport-derived materials
▪ A hybrid aramid-nylon belt for enhanced rigidity
▪ “A” rating for wet grip under the EU tyre label
▪ Advanced tread design for consistent all-weather performance
With these elements, Michelin addresses a niche that has previously lacked options—sports car drivers needing year-round tyre usability without sacrificing dynamic handling.
Just days after launch, the CrossClimate 3 Sport was recognised with the 2025 Ze Award for Technological Innovation. Judged by experts from the automotive media, driver associations, and industry bodies, the award highlights the tyre’s role in establishing a new all-season category tailored to UHP performance needs.
According to Dominique Stempfel, President of the French Tyre Manufacturers Association, the jury recognised Michelin for “pioneering a new segment” with the CrossClimate 3 Sport.
The CrossClimate 3 Sport launches in 29 sizes, from 205/40 R18 to 315/35 R20. Michelin has confirmed that an additional 30 sizes will follow in 2026, expanding availability for more performance vehicles.
