MICHELIN has introduced a new size to its X-CRANE 2 range: the 445/95 R 25 tyre, designed for mobile and all-terrain cranes operating both on- and off-road. This new addition follows the earlier 445/75 R 22.5 model launched in collaboration with Spierings in mid-2024. The 445/95 R 25 tyre responds to growing demand for improved load capacity and operational efficiency in heavy lifting equipment.
The MICHELIN X-CRANE 2 445/95 R 25 features an upgraded load and speed index of 178F—up from the 174F found in the previous X-CRANE + model. This enables each tyre to carry 800 kg more at speeds of up to 80 km/h, representing a total gain of 1.6 tonnes per axle. These upgrades allow for more efficient transport of heavy crane components over greater distances.
Field-tested under diverse surface conditions, the tyre includes M+S certification, signifying its capability to perform in mud and snow. Wet braking tests show a 27% shorter stopping distance compared to a leading competitor, helping to reduce operational risks on job sites.
The tyre integrates MICHELIN’s REGENION technology—metal 3D-printed, self-regenerating tread patterns that preserve grip and performance over time. This contributes not only to longer service life but also to enhanced traction as the tyre wears.
By reducing rolling resistance, the tyre cuts fuel consumption by more than 13%, equating to an estimated 826 litres saved over 10,000 km. This translates to cost savings of over €1,300 per tyre during typical crane operations.
The new X-CRANE 2 tyre is homologated for use with:
The new X-CRANE 2 size signals MICHELIN’s broader strategy to enhance crane mobility and operational sustainability. By combining civil engineering casing with truck tread features, and deploying REGENION tread regeneration, the tyre reflects cross-sector technology transfer that is shaping the future of specialty and off-road tyres. Improved safety, lifespan, and fuel economy make this development especially relevant for crane operators balancing productivity and environmental targets.
