Maxam Tire has added a 45/65R45 size to its MS501 MineXtra L5 range for large wheel loaders and heavy-duty mining equipment. The new fitment targets abrasive quarry and aggregate sites where resistance to cuts and downtime are critical. Maxam says the casing, compound and tread geometry are tuned to maintain stability and deliver predictable wear in the toughest underfoot conditions.
According to Maxam, the MS501 in 45/65R45 uses an extra-deep, open L5 lug pattern with staggered blocks to manage heat and wear on rock, while a square shoulder and wide footprint support loader stability and ride comfort. Reinforcements at the bead, shoulder and sidewall, paired with a cut- and tear-resistant compound, are designed to reduce unplanned stoppages in mining cycles.
Loader tyres at this size face high TKPH and frequent impact. By focusing on carcass protection and compound resilience, the 45/65R45 aims to lengthen service life and steady cost per hour—two metrics that directly influence shift productivity and maintenance planning in quarry fleets.
Tyre News recently reported Maxam’s off-highway pipeline expanding with the MS330 for construction and mining duties, underlining the brand’s activity in severe-service segments. That programme sits alongside Sailun Group’s push to diversify the MAXAM portfolio into rubber tracks, signalling broader support for industrial mobility customers. Tyre News+1
Commenting on the latest addition, Matt Fagan, Director of R&D at Maxam Tire North America, said the development focus is on improving resilience in L5 applications so sites can “amplify operational productivity.” The company frames the 45/65R45 release as a response to heavier machines and rising utilisation on quarry benches.
Safe inflation and in-situ service work on large quarry tyres remain a regulatory priority across the UK and Ireland. HSE and HSENI guidance emphasise competent personnel, safe inflation practices and robust workplace transport controls—factors that interact directly with tyre selection and maintenance windows on loader fleets.
