Fuel and CO₂ Savings: Adami Trasporti Backs Continental Hybrid Range.

Italian transport company Adami Trasporti gains triple benefits by using tyre solutions from Continental

Continental has been supplying the fleet of Italian transport company Adami Trasporti with tyres since 2023, helping the logistics firm significantly reduce its total operating costs whilst improving the environmental performance of its fleet.

The Verona-based company has equipped its vehicles with Continental's Conti Hybrid HS5, Conti Hybrid HD5, and Conti Hybrid HT3 tyres, achieving notable results in fuel efficiency, CO2 reduction, and overall cost savings.

Fuel Savings Drive Down Operating Costs

"With the rolling resistance-optimised tyres, we are reducing our CO2 emissions, saving fuel, and benefiting from high mileage at the same time," reports Stefano Adami, owner at Adami Trasporti. "The fuel savings of one and a half to two per cent are crucial for us, as consumption has a direct impact on our operating costs."

The family-owned company, which now employs 280 staff, has specialised in food transport for more than four generations. Operating a fleet of 200 modern tankers and tank containers designed for transporting liquid food products, the company serves customers from four strategic locations across Europe: Verona and Castelmassa in Italy, Bratislava in Slovakia, and Beilngries in Germany.

"We transport liquids such as fruit juices, glucose, wine, milk, chocolate, and cooking oil. Everything is always done in compliance with the highest food safety standards," explains Adami.

Continental's Service Network Adds Value

Beyond the tyre performance itself, Adami Trasporti also benefits from Continental's extensive workshop network across Europe. "The service and support offerings increase operational reliability of our vehicles and enable us to offer consistent and punctual services throughout Europe," notes Adami.

The Hidden Impact of Tyre Choice

Whilst tyres account for only two per cent of a commercial vehicle fleet's operating costs, their influence extends far beyond the initial purchase price. Through their effect on fuel consumption, CO2 emissions, and toll charges, tyres can impact up to 31 per cent of total costs.

"For a long time, tyre selection focused primarily on mileage, with cost considerations taking precedence," explains Kristina Kumme, Strategic Programme Manager at Continental. "However, in view of strict EU emission guidelines and the transformation of the logistics industry towards climate-friendly solutions, rolling resistance is becoming increasingly important."

Rolling resistance is now recognised as a critical lever for saving fuel, reducing operating costs, and lowering emissions. Continental has launched an initiative to educate fleet operators about these relationships.

"Tyres with optimised rolling resistance reduce fuel consumption and improve profitability," says Kumme. "They also contribute to reducing CO2 emissions and help transport and logistics companies meet EU environmental requirements and promote more sustainable logistics."

Continuous Investment in Innovation

Given the sensitive nature of its cargo, stringent hygiene standards, and strict EU environmental regulations, Adami Trasporti maintains one of the most modern truck and trailer fleets in Europe.

"We continuously invest a significant portion of our budget in technological innovations," says Stefano Adami. "These include digital systems for real-time monitoring of transport data and modern vehicles to reduce CO2 emissions to a minimum."

The company's sustainability strategy encompasses multiple approaches, including regular driver training sessions, expansion of intermodal transport solutions, and reduction of empty runs. The fleet also includes LNG-powered vehicles, which reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by 70 per cent.

"We are always looking for concrete solutions to reduce the impact of our services on the environment," concludes Adami. "Alongside rolling resistance-optimised tyres from Continental, our sustainability efforts also include alternative drive technologies."

This positions Adami Trasporti as a pioneer in the industry and, in partnership with Continental, demonstrates how the right tyre choice can actively contribute to reducing CO2 emissions in the transport sector in line with EU climate targets.
