How Connected Technology Is Changing Tyre Retail Operations

Connected software is bringing online tyre sales, supplier stock, fitted pricing and workshop scheduling together, while new AI capabilities are beginning to support everyday operations.

An online tyre order is only as good as a retailer's ability to fulfil it. The correct tyres must be available, the quoted fitted price must be commercially viable, and the workshop must have capacity at the customer's chosen appointment time.

Connecting these requirements is an established part of tyre retail software, but recent developments are extending the capabilities available to retailers.

Klipboard's new Autowork platform, introduced on 1 October 2026, brings tyre management, purchasing, workshop scheduling and invoicing into a cloud-based system, alongside AI-assisted booking. The platform was initially launched for US repair and tyre businesses. Although it is also promoted on Klipboard's UK website, UK commercial availability has not been independently confirmed.

Connecting Online Orders With Workshop Operations

For tyre retailers, a central requirement is ensuring that the products, prices and appointments offered online reflect what the business can actually deliver.

A tyre may be available from a wholesaler but not held locally. The supplier's delivery schedule must match the fitting appointment, while the quoted price must account for purchasing costs, fitting charges and the retailer's required margin.

Klipboard's separate Autowork eCommerce solution connects online tyre searches, product availability, pricing and bookings with workshop operations. Customers can search by vehicle or tyre size, compare products and arrange appointments. The system also supports MOT and service bookings, with payments available through Klipboard Money.

The new Autowork platform provides tyre-specific functions, including vehicle-based sizing, fitted-price quotations, local inventory and supplier integration. It also supports job cards, technician allocation and invoicing, making it relevant to businesses combining tyre fitting with servicing and mechanical repairs.

However, integration is not new to the tyre industry.

UK-based CAM has established solutions connecting tyre retailing with purchasing, stock management and workshop operations.

Its GMS AUTOMATE software supports quotations, purchasing, inventory and workshop management, with QUICKQUOTE providing access to mechanical parts suppliers and CAM's online tyre catalogue.

Through CAM CONNECT, retailers can offer online tyre purchasing and fitting appointments using real-time pricing and stock information from UK wholesalers. Customer bookings are transferred into the workshop diary, with support for depot fitting and mobile services.

These systems illustrate how connected software can link the commercial and operational sides of tyre retailing, from the initial customer enquiry through to fitting and payment.

The Emerging Role of AI

Artificial intelligence is beginning to extend these capabilities, particularly in scheduling and information retrieval.

klipboard's new Autowork platform includes an AI-assisted booking tool designed to identify suitable appointments without requiring employees to search manually through the workshop diary.

In a separate August announcement, Klipboard outlined further AI developments across its automotive portfolio, including parts identification within AutoCat and operational information retrieval within Autowork One, its established enterprise system. Autowork One is distinct from the new Autowork platform and the existing Autowork Online workshop management product.

For tyre retailers, these developments have potential applications in managing appointments, accessing operational information and responding to customer enquiries. However, the extent of adoption and any measurable productivity improvements have not been independently established.

Making Connected Systems Work in Practice

The effectiveness of connected software depends on the quality of the information it receives and how well it works with a retailer's existing processes.

Supplier stock feeds need to be sufficiently accurate and current, pricing rules must reflect the retailer's commercial requirements, and workshop diaries must account for the time and resources needed to complete each job.

Implementation also requires consideration of existing software, supplier integrations, employee training and the cost of introducing or replacing systems.

AI may provide additional assistance, but it does not remove the need for reliable data or appropriate human oversight.

For tyre retailers, the practical objective remains straightforward: ensuring that every order accepted can be supplied, fitted and completed as promised.
