Goodyear Adds URBANMAX Tyre to Urban Transport Portfolio.

Goodyear has introduced the new URBANMAX tyre, designed to meet the demands of modern city bus operations. Built for durability in urban stop-and-go conditions, the tyre promises longer life, lower rolling resistance, and compatibility with electric, hybrid, and diesel buses—supporting fleet sustainability and cost control.

Engineered for Urban Mobility Conditions

The URBANMAX tyre features a full silica tread compound that delivers up to 40% more mileage than its predecessor, while maintaining B-label ratings for fuel efficiency and wet grip. Its four-rib design includes deep grooves and sipes for enhanced traction and even wear across varied road surfaces.

A reinforced sidewall with wear indicators helps protect against curb damage—a frequent issue in urban environments. The tyre is also regroovable and retreadable, allowing operators to reduce their total cost of ownership through Goodyear’s retreading programme.

Built with Sustainability in Mind

Select URBANMAX models incorporate Goodyear’s EcoReady Technology, using up to 40% sustainable materials. This includes Rice Husk Ash Silica, sourced using the Mass Balance approach to validate the renewable content. The tyre’s low rolling resistance also helps reduce emissions and aligns with EU Taxonomy criteria for sustainable transport assets.

EV-Ready with Increased Load Capacity

With urban fleets increasingly shifting to electric powertrains, Goodyear has designed the URBANMAX to handle the additional weight of battery-electric buses. The tyre supports traditional diesel and hybrid drivetrains as well, enabling mixed-fleet operators to simplify tyre management.

RFID Integration for Smart Fleet Management

Each URBANMAX tyre is equipped with an RFID chip, allowing for real-time tracking and integration with fleet management systems. This supports better inventory control and helps operators monitor tyre usage and performance at the individual serial number level.

Product Availability

The URBANMAX tyre is now available in size 275/70R22.5 and complements Goodyear’s existing URBANMAX COMMUTER and MARATHON COACH ranges, giving fleet managers a broader suite of solutions for urban and intercity mobility needs.

As more urban centres push toward electrified and sustainable transport, tyres must evolve to match. Goodyear’s URBANMAX addresses this shift by combining extended service life with EV readiness and sustainable manufacturing inputs. Its smart features and focus on cost-efficiency reflect growing demands from fleet operators navigating both environmental targets and tight budgets.
