EV-Ready: Goodyear simplifies retailer stock selection for electric vehicles.

Goodyear has announced the introduction of a distinctive EV-Ready logo that will appear on the sidewalls of its tyres designed to meet the specific demands of electric vehicles whilst remaining suitable for internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.

The new marking, featuring a tick symbol alongside "EV" lettering, began rolling out across Europe at the beginning of 2024 and will be available across multiple tyre sizes for passenger vehicles.

Simplifying Stock Management

According to Goodyear, the EV-Ready logo is designed to bring clarity to the tyre market as electric vehicle adoption accelerates. The marking will help retailers and inventory managers streamline their stock management and sales processes by clearly identifying which products are engineered to handle the unique requirements of electric vehicles.

The move comes as Goodyear already supplies tyres to approximately 50 per cent of electric vehicles manufactured in Europe as original equipment, positioning the company as a leading tyre supplier to EV manufacturers. Goodyear expects more carmakers to specify the EV-Ready marked tyres as standard equipment on their upcoming electric models.

Existing EV Markings

The EV-Ready logo joins Goodyear's existing "Electric Drive Technology (EDT)" and "Electric Drive Ready (EDR)" labels, which have previously been used to denote tyres designed for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

Tyre News recently reported Goodyear touting Electric Drive Ready compatibility on its EQMAX ULTRA and fleet solutions roadshow, underlining how the company is carrying EV messaging through both OE and replacement channels. The roll-out also lands as European tyre demand tilts toward EV and SUV fitments despite mixed OE trends, reinforcing the need for clearer product signposting.

Technical Features

Goodyear's EV-Ready tyres incorporate several technologies specifically developed to address the challenges posed by electric vehicles:

SoundComfort Technology: Engineered to reduce road noise entering the cabin by up to 50 per cent—particularly important given the absence of engine noise in electric vehicles that would otherwise mask road noise.

Mileage Plus Technology: Designed to reduce wear rates to compensate for the additional weight electric vehicles carry due to their battery packs.

Low Rolling Resistance: Through innovative compounds and aerodynamic sidewall designs, these tyres aim to decrease energy consumption and extend the driving range of electric vehicles.

The new marking system arrives as European carmakers continue to expand their electric vehicle portfolios, with Goodyear positioning itself to capitalise on the growing demand for tyres specifically engineered for the EV segment whilst maintaining compatibility with conventional vehicles.
