Bridgestone launches Firestone FS592 steer tyre for long‑haul and regional fleets.

Bridgestone has introduced the Firestone FS592, a new steer tyre for long‑haul and regional operations in North America. The model replaces the FS591 and combines a deeper tread with a wider footprint, EPA SmartWay certification and Bridgestone’s next‑generation ENLITEN technology to improve mileage, rolling resistance and casing durability, factors that feed directly into total cost of ownership for high‑utilisation fleets.

A workhorse with longer life

Bridgestone positions the FS592 as a ‘set‑it‑and‑forget‑it’ steer tyre designed to deliver more removal miles than its predecessor while retaining a trusted, durable tread pattern. The company says an additional 1/32” of tread depth and a wider footprint contribute to a 17% increase in life (on average around 18,000 extra miles versus the FS591) giving fleets more time between changeovers.

What changes in the tread design

The FS592 introduces defence grooves and an optimised shoulder rib to help control wear balance and resist tearing under mixed long‑haul and regional use. A five‑rib pattern aims to spread load and maintain even wear across varied applications. In practice, these design tweaks target the early edge wear and irregular wear patterns that can erode steer‑axle performance.

ENLITEN casing for durability and retreading

Under the tread, the casing is engineered with Bridgestone’s next‑generation ENLITEN technology. The company states this enhances durability, retreadability and rolling resistance, supporting multiple life cycles through quality retreading and helping fleets reduce both cost and waste. Steve Hoeft, President, Commercial Truck Group, Bridgestone Americas, said the upgrade “unlocks greater levels of performance, along with an enhanced focus on sustainability,” adding that FS592 “is a testament to Bridgestone’s commitment to developing innovative products and advancing mobility.”

Certification and sizes

The FS592 launches with four sizes and carries EPA SmartWay certification for low rolling resistance on appropriate Class 8 tractor‑trailer applications. For procurement teams standardising on verified LRR products, SmartWay status signals that the tyre meets recognised efficiency criteria in the U.S. freight market.

Context for UK and European readers

While the FS592 is a Bridgestone Americas release, the technology direction mirrors developments seen from Bridgestone in EMEA , notably the ENLITEN‑equipped long‑haul ranges and efficiency‑focused commercial portfolios.

As Firestone marks 125 years, the FS592 shows the brand pushing incremental improvements where they count: on fuel, wear and uptime.
