Fendt 728 Boosts Efficiency with Michelin AxioBib 2 Tyres

Norfolk agricultural contractor DS & JE King & Son has specified Michelin AxioBib 2 tyres as original equipment on its new Fendt 728, pairing them with the manufacturer’s Vario Grip central tyre inflation system (CTIS). The set-up enables rapid pressure adjustment between field and road use, delivering gains in fuel economy, soil care, and productivity.

VF Tyre Technology Meets CTIS

The Fendt 728 runs VF 600/70 R30 tyres on the front and VF 710/70 R42 on the rear. Michelin’s Ultraflex Technology allows the AxioBib 2 to carry heavier loads at lower pressures compared to standard agricultural tyres. This combination offers:

  • Operating pressures as low as 0.6 bar for light field work
  • A footprint up to 24% larger, reducing soil compaction
  • Quick inflation for safe, stable road transport

Measured Approach to Optimal Pressures

Michelin Territory Business Manager, Charles Marais, weighed the tractor to determine precise pressures for different applications.

“We opted for the Michelin tyres as they are the best for the job,” said Daniel King, owner of DS & JE King & Son. “The footprint of these AxioBib 2s is huge; operating at low pressures when cultivating really improves fuel figures and hectares covered in a day.”

King added that having tailored inflation data is essential for getting the most from CTIS.

“If you’re going to invest in a central tyre inflation system, you have to have the right tyres or you won’t get the best out of it.”

The Fendt 728 undertakes varied duties including cultivation, trailer haulage, spraying, and drilling, where soil compaction reduction strategies can directly influence yield.

Long-Term Cost Benefit

By combining CTIS with VF casing technology, DS & JE King & Son expects to offset the tyre investment through daily fuel savings and improved output, reinforcing the business case for matching advanced tyre systems to modern high-horsepower tractors.
