GT Radial, has created a dual EV strategy that targets both EVs and internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. This move signifies a significant shift in the tyre industry, one that aims to provide tailored solutions for different vehicle segments rather than generic options that may or may not be suitable.
Stefan Fischer, the Managing Director – Product Technology at Giti Tire Europe, expressed his excitement about this pioneering development. He stated, "We are very excited to reveal and proud to be able to offer to our customers, and to the market in general, a dual electric vehicle approach to fulfil the special requirements of EV and ICE vehicles. It is about creating tyres that are designed specifically for certain vehicle segments, not just a general option for the motorist which may or may not be suitable.”
The star of GT Radial's latest tyre lineup is the GT Radial SportActive 2 EV. This tyre, initially launched in three sizes, namely 235/45R18 (Y), 235/55R19 (V), and 255/45R20 (H), has already achieved impressive AAA label results in the 19" and 20" options. Designed and engineered at Giti Tire's European Research & Development Centre in Hannover, Germany, using their extensive original equipment (OE) experience, the SportActive 2 EV features a state-of-the-art ULRR compound. This compound brings about a remarkable 15% reduction in rolling resistance compared to standard Ultra-High Performance (UHP) tyres.
Safety has remained a core priority for GT Radial, even with their electric vehicle-specific tyres. The SportActive 2 EV has achieved all A labels in wet grip, demonstrating its exceptional performance in challenging road conditions. The tyre's construction has also undergone revisions, resulting in a 4% reduction in weight while maintaining precise control, outstanding wet and dry grip, long-lasting mileage, and an enjoyable driving experience.
GT Radial plans to expand the SportActive 2 EV range in 2024, covering a wider array of EV cars and SUVs, including popular models like the VW ID.3, Cupra Born, VW ID.4, Skoda Eniaq iV, and Audi Q4 e-tron, among others. This commitment to constantly evolving their offerings ensures that GT Radial remains at the forefront of the EV revolution.
In addition to the SportActive 2 EV, GT Radial has identified 16 sizes across the SportActive 2 and GT Radial FE2 portfolios as EV Ready. These tyres bear a distinct EV Ready sidewall logo, indicating their full compatibility with internal combustion engine (ICE), mild and plug-in hybrid (MHEV and PHEV), as well as battery electric (BEV) drivetrain vehicles. This comprehensive range of EV Ready sizes, boasting A-grade wet grip, low rolling resistance, and excellent mileage across every variant, highlights GT Radial's forward-thinking approach.
