Bridgestone, has announced the expansion of its off-the-road (OTR) mining tyre production at its LEED- and ISCC-certified plant in Aiken County, South Carolina. The expansion is in response to the growing demand for Bridgestone's MasterCore OTR mining tyres, which are designed to increase the efficiency and sustainability of mining operations.

Starting this month, the Aiken facility will produce two additional MasterCore products, the 53/80R63 and 59/80R63, in an effort to more efficiently meet U.S. supply demands. Bridgestone's Aiken facility is the company's only plant in North America that produces the giant MasterCore mining tyres, which stand 13 feet tall and weigh upwards of 10,000 pounds each.

The Aiken plant is one of Bridgestone's most sustainable and environmentally conscious facilities. It reuses 92% of its own construction debris and 100% of discarded manufacturing materials. It also leverages rail transportation as an alternative method to truck transport, reducing 600 tons of CO2 in transportation to their Western Canada market in 2022 alone. The plant also harvests rainwater via geomembrane pond liners and pavers, creating retention ponds and supporting water harvesting at the global operation.

The expansion of the Aiken facility represents a marriage of product and facility both designed with sustainability in mind. The MasterCore tyres represent the pinnacle of Bridgestone tyre technology and manufacturing expertise, delivering up to 5% more durability, 10% faster speed, or 15% greater payloads, maximizing a mine's productivity. The addition of the new products will enable Bridgestone to better serve its mining customers in the U.S. and continue to promote sustainable practices in the industry.
