Bangers4Ben Rally 2023: Dublin Driving Dolls Gear Up for the Emerald Isle Adventure

The UK Garage and Bodyshop Event (UKGBE), a prestigious event presented by Automechanika Birmingham, is all set to make a mark in this year's Bangers4Ben rally. The team, affectionately known as the Dublin Driving Dolls, is ready to conquer the scenic routes of the Emerald Isle.

Scheduled from 7th to 10th October, the 2023 edition of this exhilarating rally will witness participants covering a staggering 1,500 miles across Ireland in just four days. The catch? They'll be doing it in their 'bangers' – cars that have been acquired for a modest sum of less than £750.

This year, UKGBE has joined forces with LKQ Euro Car Parts and aftermarket business magnates, Louise Baker and Rachel Murray. The challenge will kick off from Holyhead, crossing the Irish Sea to Dublin, and will culminate back in Dublin, marking the end of this adventurous journey.

For those who remember, in 2019, Automechanika Birmingham had formed a team with Louise and Rachel. They had the backing of Messe Frankfurt, the organisers behind both Automechanika Birmingham and UKGBE, assisting with logistics and financial aspects. This year, the dynamic duo is back, and they're not alone. Joining them are Alex Jones, the marketing director at Messe Frankfurt UK, and Karena Shahid, the regional account manager at LKQ Euro Car Parts.

Last year's rally was a roaring success with Louise and Rachel representing Automechanika. They embarked on a journey from Birmingham to Monaco, raising an impressive £3,000 for the automotive mental health charity, Ben.

This year, the team is revving up for another adventure. They've purchased a Citroen, which will be adorned with a trendy Barbie theme, resonating with the spirit of the event. Bangers4Ben, at its core, is a charitable endeavour. Participants pay an entry fee of £1,050 and must buy a car under £750. The event encourages teams to embrace their creative side, with fancy dress and unique car decorations. Once the rally concludes, the cars are auctioned, with proceeds going to charity.

Louise, the proud owner of the independent garage, Womanic, boasts over two decades of hands-on experience. On the other hand, Rachel, a 25-year-old freelance refinisher, has expertise spanning the automotive, marine, commercial, and domestic spraying sectors.

The team, including Alex and Karena, are not just passionate about cars but are also advocates for diversity, especially promoting women in the automotive industry. They're also committed to eradicating the mental health stigma prevalent in the sector.

Karena expressed her excitement, stating, "I’m thrilled to be part of the Dublin Driving Dolls team for Bangers4Ben 2023. Raising money for charity while having a blast – it's a win-win!" Alex Jones echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the importance of promoting diversity in the industry.

Automation Events will be overseeing the rally this year, continuing their support for the charity, Ben.
