Tyre recycling technology specialist Scandinavian Enviro Systems has appointed Fredrik Aaben as chief executive officer, effective 16 January, following the departure of Fredrik Emilson.
The appointment comes as part of Scandinavian Enviro Systems' succession plan and follows a mutual agreement between the company and Emilson regarding his departure from the CEO position. Emilson will continue to support the business as senior adviser during a transitional period.
Aaben joined Scandinavian Enviro Systems as chief financial officer in November 2024, bringing nearly eight years of experience from Volvo Cars, where he served as head of corporate finance. During his time at the automotive manufacturer, he held various positions across corporate finance, corporate strategy and corporate governance. His earlier career includes a role as group business controller at Stena AB and experience in management and strategy consulting.
The incoming CEO holds dual master's degrees from Chalmers University of Technology in industrial engineering and management, and software engineering.
Ewa Björling, chairman of the board at Scandinavian Enviro Systems, expressed confidence in the appointment: "The board is very pleased to appoint Fredrik Aaben as chief executive officer of Scandinavian Enviro Systems. Fredrik has a deep understanding of the company, its operations and strategic direction, and has demonstrated strong leadership, analytical capability and commitment during his time as chief financial officer."
She added: "With his extensive experience in finance, strategy and corporate governance, the board has very strong confidence in Fredrik's ability to lead Enviro forward and successfully drive the company's continued development and growth."
Commenting on his appointment, Aaben said: "I am excited to have been appointed chief executive officer of Scandinavian Enviro Systems. Enviro is a company with a leading technology platform and a highly competent organisation. I look forward to working closely with the board, the management team and all employees to drive execution and continue developing the company in line with its long-term ambitions."
The board acknowledged Emilson's contributions during his tenure, noting that the company had taken important steps in its development under his leadership.
Alongside the CEO transition, Scandinavian Enviro Systems has promoted Maria Ljungstrand to chief financial officer. Ljungstrand joined the company in April 2024 as head of group business control, having previously held various business controller positions at multinational food and beverage companies including Danone and Mondelez International.
"Maria is an exceptional finance professional who is well respected within the organisation for her leadership and competence. I am very pleased that Maria has accepted the role of chief financial officer," said Aaben.
The leadership changes come at a pivotal time for Scandinavian Enviro Systems as the tyre recycling specialist continues to develop its technology platform and pursue growth opportunities in the circular economy sector.
