Michelin has unveiled its latest innovation, the Primacy 5 tyre, a significant upgrade to its predecessor, the Primacy 4+. Designed with the modern motorist in mind, this tyre delivers increased longevity, improved safety, and enhanced environmental benefits, making it a key contender in the UK fleet market.

The Primacy 5 boasts an 18% longer lifespan, allowing for an additional 7,000 km (4,350 miles) of travel compared to the Primacy 4+. This increase reduces environmental impact by 6%, aligning with Michelin’s ‘All Sustainable’ strategy.

Safety and Performance at the Forefront

Equipped with a new patented tread pattern and deeper tread channels (+10%), the Primacy 5 offers optimal water evacuation and a remarkable 4% improvement in wet braking performance when new. The tyre also meets the highest standards for energy efficiency, with a 5% enhancement compared to the previous model. This positions the Primacy 5 as an ideal fit for internal combustion engine (ICE), hybrid, and electric vehicles.

The tyre is A-rated under European standards, thanks to the integration of next-generation functional elastomers that ensure high performance throughout its lifespan.

Comfort Meets Sustainability

The Primacy 5 continues Michelin's commitment to driver comfort and noise reduction. By harmonising block and sipe positioning for each tyre size, Michelin has optimised both interior noise and ride comfort.

Michelin’s spokesperson highlighted the tyre’s versatility, stating:

“In the desire to have all car drivers profit from its latest technological advances, all the Michelin ranges must, depending on their specifications, benefit from these innovations. Michelin Primacy 5 is a perfect example of this. It provides a level of requirement matching that expected of a car or SUV, whether this is a combustion engine, hybrid, or electric vehicle, combining lifespan, torque, range, weight, noise, and better environmental respect.”

Availability

The Michelin Primacy 5 will be available in 87 sizes by 2025, with 64 dimensions already launched in Europe. By mid-2026, this range will expand to 149 dimensions, making it accessible across a wide variety of vehicles. Global availability is also on the horizon, with marketing in Asia set to commence in March 2025.
