Michelin has announced its first tyre developed specifically for wide-body trucks used in mining, with a worldwide launch scheduled for 1 November 2026.

The MICHELIN XDR Wide Body Truck tyre will initially be available in size 16.00 R25. Further sizes are planned, although Michelin has not provided a timetable.

The manufacturer says it developed the tyre in less than two years to meet the requirements of mining operators using this vehicle type.

Its casing incorporates thick steel-cord reinforcement. Michelin states that the tyre can carry 12 tonnes at a recommended inflation pressure of 9 bar. These figures are manufacturer specifications for the application, with operating conditions and fitment requirements to be confirmed for individual vehicles.

Kevin Maleterre, Director of Michelin Beyond Road, said: “Wide body trucks are playing an increasingly important role in mining operations.”

Michelin says the tyre is designed for intensive duty cycles, combining load-carrying capability with traction on soft or muddy ground. The company also claims that its tread compound provides resistance to damage and supports longer service life.

Those features are intended to help operators control tyre costs and reduce unplanned downtime. The supplied announcement does not include quantified fleet trial results or service-life comparisons.

The launch adds a dedicated fitment to Michelin’s mining range as the manufacturer seeks to serve operators adopting wide-body haulage trucks.
