Linglong Tire has announced the launch of what it claims is the world's largest OTR (off-the-road) tyre, the 59/80 R63 LXD Master Pro, marking a significant milestone in the company's technological development and positioning it amongst the global elite in the mining tyre sector.
Built at Linglong's Changchun facility in China, the colossal 63-inch tyre boasts a diameter exceeding four metres and weighs more than six tonnes. With a load capacity of 100 tonnes, the tyre has been specifically engineered for deployment on ultra-class mining dump trucks, including the Caterpillar 797 and Komatsu 980, which operate in some of the world's most demanding mining environments.

The primary markets for the new tyre are expected to be the major mining regions of Australia, South America, and Africa, where such heavy-duty equipment is extensively used in both open-cast and underground mining operations.
Linglong's achievement draws on almost 40 years of experience in OTR tyre manufacturing. The company's journey in this segment began in 1987 with the production of its first cross-ply tyre for agricultural machinery. Since then, Linglong has systematically expanded its capabilities across three main product lines: mechanical, agricultural, and industrial tyres.
The development of the 59/80 R63 LXD Master Pro required the company to overcome considerable technical challenges in structural design, materials science, and manufacturing processes. According to Linglong, this extensive research and development effort has resulted in a product that demonstrates the company now possesses technologies that were until recently the exclusive domain of leading international premium brands.
The launch of the 59/80 R63 LXD Master Pro serves dual purposes for Linglong. Firstly, it fills a crucial gap in the company's OTR portfolio by adding a 63-inch giant radial tyre to its range. More significantly, it represents a statement of technological capability that positions Linglong Tire as one of the world's leading manufacturers in the OTR segment.
This achievement comes as part of Linglong's broader strategic planning for the OTR market. In 2022, the company optimised its capacity planning specifically for OTR tyre production. As part of its global "7+5" strategic layout, Linglong has implemented a special "3+3" configuration for OTR tyres, which will see production established at three sites in China and three international locations.
The move reflects growing demand for large mining tyres as the global resources sector continues to invest in ultra-class hauling equipment to improve operational efficiency and reduce per-tonne transport costs in mining operations.
