The European tyre industry's representative body has unveiled a fresh identity and elected new president and vice-president as it seeks to strengthen the sector's voice in Brussels.

The European Tyre and Rubber Manufacturers' Association (ETRMA) has today announced its transformation into Tyres Europe, marking a strategic shift towards a more focused mandate centred specifically on the tyre manufacturing sector.

Alongside the rebrand, the association's board has appointed Livio Magni, CEO of Pirelli's Europe Region, as president, with Paolo Pompei, president and CEO of Nokian Tyres, taking the role of vice-president. Both will serve two-year terms.

A Tyre-Focused Mission

The new identity reflects what the organisation describes as a "clear, tyre-focused mandate" aimed at promoting a competitive and innovative European tyre manufacturing industry whilst advancing safe, smart, and sustainable mobility.

Speaking on his appointment, Magni emphasised the strategic importance of the sector: "The tyre industry is a strategic pillar for Europe's mobility, prosperity, and safety. Through Tyres Europe, we will continue to work closely with policymakers and key stakeholders to ensure a predictable business environment that enables manufacturers to invest, innovate, and compete in Europe."

He added that the industry remains committed to developing products that are "increasingly safe and environmentally responsible."

Industry Investment and Advocacy

Vice-President Pompei highlighted the sector's ongoing investment in capacity, efficiency, and research and development. "Our sector is investing in capacity, efficiency and R&D to serve European mobility, reliably," he said. "Tyres Europe is committed to advocating for industrial policies that empower manufacturers to deliver greater value to society and to be recognised for their performance."

Adam McCarthy, secretary general of Tyres Europe, drew parallels between tyres and other critical automotive components: "Tyres are as essential to vehicle performance as batteries and semiconductors and face multiple cross-cutting challenges that reflect the broader industrial transition."

McCarthy confirmed the organisation will maintain active engagement with EU institutions "to build coherent, workable rules that deliver real-world outcomes across competitiveness, circularity and innovation."

Launch Event Scheduled

Tyres Europe will formally launch at an event in Brussels on 18 November. The evening programme will feature a strategic update from the association's leadership, followed by keynote addresses from senior representatives of the European Commission and European Parliament focusing on Europe's mobility value chain.

The rebranding comes at a time of significant regulatory and technological change for the tyre industry, with manufacturers navigating evolving environmental standards, digitalisation requirements, and the transition to electric mobility.
